The historic UN Climate Conference is underway in Copenhagen. Delegates from 192 countries will try to hammer out a deal to cut greenhouse gas emissions and prevent the dangerous rise of global temperatures.

Developing countries like India say rich nations have a responsibility to make the deepest cuts because they have emitted the most carbon dioxide in the last 150 years and still emit the most per capita.

But emissions from emerging economies such as China and India are surging, and any global limit on emissions needs to put curbs on those nations too.

India has offered to cut its carbon intensity by 24% by 2020. That means it will only slow the increase of emissions not cut them.

Global Nationals Foreign Editor Stuart Greer speaks to South Asia Correspondent Jas Johal about why Indians are not ready to make big carbon cuts.
