Just want to say good for you and your son!
Wish my father had taken me out shooting when I was a kid.
Great way to teach responsibility and have allot of fun at the same time.

@f3l0ny33 oh i go pretty far, go on the I-15 north and get onto the I-40 east and head east ward... get off at Ludlow and head towards the Dairy Queen, there is a dirt road nearby and take it 7 miles and you will come upon a dry lake bed known as "Broadwell". However after a big rain storm it is often flooded.

@Ma77hew - I agree! Where exactly do you usually go? I went out once but was a little nervous if I was in the right area or not...

I live in upland not too far from this place.

i prefer driving out past barstow rather than going to the range, its free, legal, and you can set up your own target, plus no ammo restrictions!
Surplus ammo. You can shoot anything except for Tracer and steel core i think. check their webpage. litylecreekrange

You can purchase everything you need from them. Targets are $5 each....or even better, bowling pins are $5 each. If you have a 22lr with a good scope you can shoot golf balls at 100yards all day long. mucho fun.

I just bought an Mosin Nagant last week. I'm about to head out to Lytle Creek myself soon. I like their open "do it yourself" style, but I kind of wish they would have a better way to mount your targets, so that we don't all have to be out there like cavemen pounding stakes in the ground with rocks.

You are right about the digging. Last time i used my crow-bar to dig a hole. It sucked. Dont forget to take a video camera. You will want to show your friends how much fun and safe it really is.

The bolt is not sticky. The bullet is old surplus ammo from Russia. Some expand when fired and then becomes hard to extract them. It happens on rare occasions.
