Hallstatt, Upper Austria is a village in the Salzkammergut, a region in Austria. It is located near the Lake Hallstättersee. The village also gave its name to the early Iron Age Hallstatt culture and is a World Heritage Site for Cultural Heritage. To reach Hallstatt you will first need to catch 2 hours train... from Linz (or any of the station along the way). The train will stop at a small train station located on the eastern side of Lake Hallstatt, and from there you will need to catch a short boat ride across the lake in order to reach Hallstatt village, which is located on the western side of the lake. Nowadays there is a tunnel connecting the village to the outside world by road, but it is still much more interesting to reach there the old fashion way, i.e first by train then by boat. It was raining when we visited the place, but it is still no doubt one of the most unique and beautiful places we have visited over the years. Highly recommended.
Very nice photos. I hope to see the place this June 2012.
