A pyongyang traffic intersection

In North Korea they prefer to use cute females to direct traffic rather than traffic lights. This is not because they don't have traffic lights - they do! But they feel the (mostly male) drivers will pay more attention this way. Since traffic is light it works

better not replace them with traffic lights, that'd be destroying jobs!..... but seriously, it's been demonstrated in several European Cities that removing traffic lights, traffic paint and the distinction between car space and pedestrian space results in more people getting where they are going faster while traveling slower by greatly reducing idling time while reducing accidents by nearly a magniture and reducing fatal accidentends even more radically.

It's a shame the clip isn't longer because then you notice the dark green volvo-like car (and indeed the other 3 vehicles) are actually all on a loop, driving the same circuit throughout daylight hours. Kind of like the Truman Show.

I wonder what the different gestures they do mean. From what I've seen there's the lifting the arm straight in the air and the holding the stick horizontally against the chest. Anyone know?
