how do you install linux in native mode?
-
No, but give Microsoft a few years and you'll be able to see their version of Beryl.

I agree! It's also better because it (as I know) doesn't install kernel extensions
My father has parallels and sometimes kernel panics because of these rubbish-like relicts!

It seems as if you didn't understand what I wanted to say
My opinion is that Linux is nothing for people who aren't real geeks: You need to know how to partition and all this stuff; Mac OS X just does it for me. And that's what I wanted to say.
Use Linux if you know how to and you're on the best way; use a Mac if you want it simple and functional.
(or use Windows if you have no idea what a computer is :D)

learn how to fucking partition
-
Probably with Boot Camp.

The most problematic thing is the installation of Ubuntu... Once, it smashed my partition scheme entirely, I'd luck to not have destroyed my HD...

tennismanclay07 Parallels dose not give full hardware 3D you will need VMware fusion or Boot Camp

tennismanclay07,
I don't know if it's possible run xgl from parallels. Perhaps you must install linux in native mode.

Can I do this in parallels? Or do I have to use Boot Camp?

cablegunner, domharrington, to get xgl working you must install Ubuntu in native mode. Xgl is not compatible with the virtualized (and slow) Parallels graphics card.

CoMMenDaToR,
Yes, it has the 950 graphics but are well supported by linux and xgl.

milkfilk:
Indeed, Xgl's not a toy, it's a very useful 3d desktop. It's possible to work in a transparency terminal while watching a video. But you must consider the cpu usage (around 30%).
mikehoe: no, it's not Vista :D Ubuntu is a Linux flavour...
