I came across a very useful tactic for letting people know your an atheist. DON'T make a big deal of it when you say it. Say it as normally as you would state any other fact about yourself. Then when people make a big deal of it, act calm and look at them oddly. Makes them feel like they are being idiots and over-reacting. They usually shut up afterwards.

Ah yes, the familiar threat of eternal torture and hellfire. At a loss for valid reasons to follow your particular religious beliefs, there will always be theists who, directly or subtly, resort to fear to compel others to their faith.

Cowboy144 - Do you think atheists can publicly admit that they are atheists and be treated the same as any other American? That they're beliefs would be treated as "different" instead of "evil"?
