The history of Jerusalem did not start in 1967. Thousands of years of Jewish history took place in what is now called "Arab East Jerusalem."
Only when the Jewish residents were driven from their homes in 1948 was the city divided between East and West.

@dlagrua Oh really ? The Jews arrived in 1948 ? that's odd because my family was there generations before 1948 as were many others. Lie #2. Palestinians were ejected. Wrong again...the Arabs fled because their leaders wanted them out of the way so that they could easily kill the Jews and take the land. Get your facts straight.

All the Left and Greens take it as a given that Israel is apartheid and similar to the Nazis in behavior. Not only is this horribly offensive to Jews but it is an inversion of the truth. It is the Arab world that wants to make the region free of Jews. It is the Arab world that wants to eliminate the Jews. Not the other way around.

@alonabd Maybe you should get your facts rights. The Palis owned most of the land in 1947 , over 90%. Most Jews arrived in Palestine after 1930s. What was the Jewish population of Palestine in the 1920s, thats right , only 21,000. Maybe you should read something written by Israels New Historian rather than repeating hasbara bullshit.

I find it laughable that a bunch of European Jews claim to have a historical connection to Jerusalum. A spiritual connection doesn't mean you have a physical connection. Just because you share a religion with someoone 2000 years ago doesn't mean you're there decendants and have a right to kick someone out of their home. @eastariel, I completely agree, The Holy Land belongs to the people who live there now. And the people who live there now are 6 million Israeli Jews, over 2 million Arabs, as well as Armenians, Greeks, Cherkesians, Chechens, Samaritans, Druze, Bahai, Bedouins, and others.

I particularly "love" the phrase "traditionally Arab East Jerusalem."

This "tradition" lasted for 19 years: from 1948 to 1967. 19 years in the history of one of the oldest cities in the world.

Compare it with Berlin: a much, much younger city, only a few hundred years old (Jerusalem is millennia old), yet it stayed divided for 44 years. And yet, no one refers to "traditional West Berlin" or "traditional East Berlin."

Interesting traditions media choses to uphold.

Do you really think that only arabs spread around this lie? No way. Christians (Catholics in particular were and are the enemy of Judaism. All through the centuries they took very active role not only in deprivation Jews of their History, but in their physical extermination. So, tell the truth about role of arabs AND christians in this ugliness.

It's too late to change the highway robbery of the past, but it's not too late to create the future.

What seems fair to me is the considerations of the people who live there now. Many of them have been driven from their homes and their land. They need to get their homes back for peace to prevail.

Past crimes don't give their victims permission to commit present crimes. That endless cycle hurts everyone.

So does that mean Native Americans get to drive American citizens out of their homes and install our chiefs in the Whitehouse?

No. The Holy Land belongs to the people who live there now. Families must not be driven from their homes. The past does not give people permission to commit the same crimes in the present.

@2stantee Very true! Israel has Arabs in its Knesset (congress) as well as Cabinet, and can vote just like everyone else! Not to mention, at Hebrew University, Jews and Arabs go to school together...
