Small 1950's-60's sidevalve 4 stroke Flymo-Suffolk Punch cylinder mower engine runs very well now properly set up. Has an automatic clutch (the small green drum) so when it's ticking over the belt & alternator stops. First test run so the tank is only lashed onto some alloy, (i may make another larger neater flatter tank). I bought the mower for £7 none running off a retired guy off E Bay and added a Delco Vauxhall-GM Astra Alternator think its a 60-70Amp max, belts a bit loose & battery was almost charged so voltage has starting to drop, may add an Ammeter and a few other bits. Apart from the Alt everything else was left over from other wind turbine jobs so was satisfying seeing it make power, runs so well i changed oil for fresh Synthetic.
These old mowers do need a decent muffler / silencer or ear defenders for the owner looking out for one, the tank is angled down now which makes it more compact-neater, makes around 5-12 Amps depending on size & state of charge of the battery Thanks for looking.

  • Perhaps you had it off for demonstration purposes, but you need a belt guard on that. I did this four years ago with a 5hp Briggs ran well might consider running a second generator for a hydrogen fuel cell to power the Briggs. Save that three dollars in gasoline.

  • @Sputterbutte Yes your right about the guard, It was mainly just an experiment, I gave it to a friend for his allotment-smallholding, which doesn't have any mains power, obviously not a 'Pro' set up as it is, just for fun really, Thanks for looking & your interest guys!

  • @Sputterbutte $3 in gasoline did you say , wow right now in England we are paying around £1.30 per Litre (1/4 of your Gallon seriously) I have a huge ex Army Gen set, it's a well engineeredold A Dinosaur but I love it! 816 cc 300lb weight and as it runs slow only 1500rpm uses a bit more 'Gas' Petrol than a Honda GX270-290, & it's 42 Years old!

  • To be honest I think the more modern Briggs Quantum or similar engines are more suitable, this was only a little 2hp & pretty old aswell so was 'pushing it' a bit, I think a 4-5hp & there's power to spare!

  • @bonecrime Yes that's right, peak optimum charge on a car for Winter especially when loaded to hell, between 13.8-14.4v they say, reduce right down as they sense battery has reached 12.5v fully charged, cheers for looking-input.

  • Cool

  • ewww..... i had a similar idea but WTF these 1 i love it cos of the small engine how many time will it run with 1 litter of gas? >.< tnx for sharing the idea, its grate.

  • Sharp frame & belt tightening.

  • this is a car generator

  • @wind4watts More like 14.4V I think. :)
