50 years before Richard Wagner began with musical sketches for Tristan und Isolde Louis Spohr composed a "prophetic passage" in his String Quartet op. 4 Nr. 1 (Third movement: Adagio).

  • Very nice piece. But I don't think its exactly the Tristan Chord, I will try to look it the score, but thanks for posting regardless. 

  • Wow... never thought there would have been an earlier record of the Tristan chord being used! Still sounds as haunting as it is in Wagner's composition. Kinda sounds like it resolves in a similar way, too!
