Overkill by Men at Work from Contraband: The Best of Men at Work.
Lyrics:
I can't get to sleep
I think about the implications
Of diving in too deep
And possibly the complications

Especially at night
I worry over situations
I know will be alright
Perahaps its just my imagination

Day after day it reappears
Night after night my heartbeat, shows the fear
Ghosts appear and fade away

Alone between the sheets
Only brings exasperation
It's time to walk the streets
Smell the desperation

At least there's pretty lights
And though there's little variation
It nullifies the night
From overkill

Day after day it reappears
Night after night my heartbeat, shows the fear
Ghosts appear and fade away

I can't get to sleep
I think about the implications
Of diving in too deep
And possibly the complications

Especially at night
I worry over situations
I know will be alright
It's just overkill

Day after day it reappears
Night after night my heartbeat, shows the fear
Ghosts appear and fade away

  • This song takes me back to those bouts of insomnia I had when I was younger. With a head full of doubts and fears, concerns for what was to come, I'd slip out and wander the empty streets on those sleepless nights...

  • Do not be surprized of Men At Work's ability! Enjoy it while you can!

  • Back when the ability to write lyrics and melody mattered for shit.

  • Brings me back to 1983. I was 7 years old, not a care in the world. Back in '83, the pop music scene was much better and also rock music was still diverse with New Wave (Men at Work, The Cars), Metal (Iron Maiden, Metallica), Hard Rock (Def Leppard, Quiet Riot), Arena Rock (Journey and Styx) and Prog Rock (Pink Floyd, Genesis, Rush) amidst some of the fluff out but buries any shit out today. The first two Men at Work albums were (and still are) brilliant.

  • VIVAN LOS OCHENTAS, GRACIAS AUSTRALIA

  • Why do the Colin Hay version and the Men At Work version sound so different? Aren't they both sung by Colin Hay?

  • Has anybody noticed how most of the songs from the 80's take you back to a memory or a moment, whether you liked the song or not? I can't imagine 10 years from now any songs that can leave that kind of impact.

  • anyone remembers Scrubs hearing this song?

  • Colin Hay can really sing.....I luv this song!
