Nice drumming, but I wanted to correct you. Soca is not a fusion of "soul" and Calypso. That is what most Americans and Europeans think Soca means. Soca was spelled Sokah before it was later changed to Soca. and it was the Soul of Calypso (melodic content) with African and Indian drumming. This rhythm you play was actually a Calypso rhythm that existed before the birth of Soca. You can hear it in older Calypso music before the 70's. The rhythm was played on congas and bass lines in Calypso music

@knightryder1983 Soca music is a combination of Calypso & east indian music.... with the rhythmic sounds from the African drums, Tabla, & has a distinctive bass line.which sounds ( doon doop....doon doop) a running bass line as so to say....ANY TIME A SOCA BEAT DOES NOT SOUND LIKE IT HAS INDIAN FLAVOURING IN IT ....THEN IT"S NOT A SOCA BEAT....Bcuz, Ras Shorty I (INVENTER OF SOCA MUSIC) specifically, made the beat to sound that way....the fusion of African music & East Indian Music.....
