  • Wow, sometimes she really sounds like Nilsson...

  • She studied with Nilsson several years ago. in fact, Nilsson kept in contact with Brewer up until her death. She offered high praise for Brewer's first concert Isolde.

  • What a fantastic clip from the Chicago Lyric production. Christine Brewer is undoubtedly one of the finest dramatic sopranos before the public today. Bravo!!

  • She is quite amazing. Recently heard her in the Verdi Requiem with the St. Louis Symphony...another dazzling performance.

  • I was fortunate enough to see her and Voigt in Chicago in Die Frau a couple of years ago. Exquisite singing from the entire cast. A bit of an unfortunate set for her to navigate around silly vats, but stunning vocalism, warmth of tone and filled that huge house with plenty to spare. A wonderful memory.

  • For me she's better than Nilsson. Her tone is more beautiful! I feel more emotions in Brewer's voice!

  • ...sounds like Rysanek...

  • You are very lucky indeed if you managed to see this production. I, unfortunately, did not but, having listened to the broadcast(s) I can only imagine. If you would care to elaborate ... I'm sure you would have quite a captive audience!

  • Just saw Brewer in Alceste in Santa Fe summer and she was magnificent.

  • Too bad you did not see the original Metropolitan production with Leonie Rysanek, James King, Christa Ludwig, Walter Berry, Karl Bohm conducting with the most fantastic production by Merrill and O'Hearn. They were performances that will never be equalled nor will the production. The Chicago production nor the singers with the exeption of Christine Brewer unfortunately did no come any where near to those Met. performances.

  • This performance at the Chicago Lyric was so amazing. It is the best all around (complete cast and direction, and costumes. . etc. . ). . everything. . . . That I have ever seen at Lyric. I remain inspired and moved by that performance.

  • i died and went to heaven when i saw brewer as isolde.

  • I saw this performance at the Lyric---quite fine. I also saw two performances of "Frau" at The Met back in 1981 that were Nilsson's last at the house. Although a fine singer, Brewer does not sound in any way like Nilsson.
