This video covers the basic spread of ADB's purchased by the SCRTD and in some cases used as late as 2007. Fleets include:

Grumman 870's 7500-7729 ran from 1980-1993
GMC RTS 04 (40 foot) 8200-9139 ran from 1980-2000
GMC RTS 04 (35 foot) 4400-4434 ran from 1982-2007
TMC RTS 06 2000-2267 ran from 1988-2007
TMC RTS 06 1970-1999, 2300-2402 ran from 1989-2007
TMC RTS 06 1200-1502 ran from 1992 as late as 2009
Flxible Metro 2500-2649 ran 1988-2001
Flxible Metro 2700-2764 ran from 1990-2001
Flxible Metro 2800-2870 ran from 1991-2003
Flxible Metro 2900-2932 ran from 1992-2005

Also included are OCTA GMC RTS 3004, and SCAT 4542 (Re# LACMTA 7542) both part of buses leased to LACMTA in 1996-1997 during the "CNG crisis" era.

Point of note coach 2743 was the very last SCRTD-LACMTA bus to run in the RTD tri-stripe paint scheme. Shown during a rare assignment to Division 2 in 2001 this bus was retired in its factory colors thus ending the tri-stripe era ushered in with the "New" ADB's in 1980.

For comparison I threw in some later era repaints of fleet survivors that made it into those later schemes.

The vaults of Osiris Press open to bring you the classic eras of Los Angeles transportation. This group is made of material I have taken myself and purchased from various sources over the years.

Thanks to the efforts of 90MAC these slides and negatives have been digitally restored so we can watch them without putting those slides through the projectors getting stuck or jammed. The slides themselves no longer "Die a little death" as they do each time they are projected where an incremental amount of damage takes place to the slide.

  • WTF!!! at 1:56

  • That is known as the "Mayfly RTS" was a borrowed Montebello RTS 03 #9375 painted as a mock-up for the upcoming SCRTD tri-stripe scheme. An OCTD Grumman 870, and SCRTD 3260 were also borrowed for this and all three were numbered 5865 for the publicity shots.

This was done for the award of the bids to GMC for 940 RTS 04's, and Grumman-Flxible for 230 870's. The buses were returned to their owners and painted back.

Of note the RTS appears on a postcard and is the basis for the Hot Wheels RTS toy.

  • This song goes awesome with this video. Nice production

  • I miss those buses

  • OMG! It is Flexie and Twinkie! lolololololololololololol!

  • Ah, Southern California Rapid Transit District. I didn't know that existed when I was born, then Metro was created

  • TriMet is still running its 1992 and '94 Flxible Metros (the 1993 LNG-fueled fleet, 1809-1816, was retired in late 2000) at present, but will soon be displaced by new Gillig Low Floors in 2012-16.

  • @Xomanowar That is true!

  • @loaferguy73 Compared to the NABIs, the RTS is better quality. The ride in an RTS is smoother and quieter.

  • @Xomanowar99 It had more style than that boxy looking Flxible and has pretty much out lasted it! Go to NYC and other places they are still rolling in decent numbers!

  • I always thought the RTS was a plain vanilla looking bus.

  • Damn!! RTS' and Grummans owned the streets of L.A. at one time.
