@wmotamedi I just remember (I think) track 10 on Deloused being my favorite. I'll re-listen. Anyways, no worries. You know how Youtube is famous for these kinds of arguments :d
@CoItonBrook It's been so long since I've heard Frances and Amputecture...it wouldn't be right for me to pass judgement on them with a memory as foggy as my own. But dude, Deloused was like an epic journey. Each song has a distinctive feeling that sets it apart from the others, and it's captivating enough to hear on repeat without skipping a song. That is rare for me. Definitely give it a re-listen. And I apologize for being an overzealous prick. I just get really passionate sometimes.
@wmotamedi Hmm, I was just being over dramatic with the criticism of your piece, btw ;) There is a difference between overly emotional and striking emotional chords in a person. But, now that we are talking about TMV :D You think Deloused is better than Frances, or Amputecture? (I'm not provoking you, this is a serious question. I'm a huge TMV fan). Production-wise Amputecture did it for me. It's an epic album. And Frances has all the groove and raw solos...for some reason I never got Deloused.
@wmotamedi Oh my! Quite perverse, indeed. Herp. Derp. Yes, hmmm Beethoven is poop. Complexity, dear sir, is the highest art. You poor minimalist droid...Sigh, no, wmotamedi, of course not! My point is to show how easy it is to judge, and how much harder it is to try and understand a piece, which you haven't done here. All I want is for you to be able to say "this music is shit" without attacking the people who like it. That. Is. All. I hope you have a wonderful night. Write more music!
Moreover, it is quite stupid of you to attach negative connotations to "overly emotional" music. Isn't that what every outstanding piece achieves? TMV's Deloused in the Comatorium practically fucks your emotions and makes them come whenever you listen to it, and it is, in my humble opinion, one of the best albums ever produced. Andrea Bocelli achieves this as well.
@ColtonBrook Your wide knowledge of music terminology is quite impressive! It far surpasses my own. But you made a fatal flaw if you implied that simplistic music is "bad music". You might as well cast off Satie as a charlatan. It's ridiculous. By the by, John Zorn is nothing to write home about. Anything Mike Patton touches is doomed for sterility and mediocrity. And all music is more or less "repetative". I mean Jesus, is Moonlight Sonata suddenly crap to you now? What perverse standards!
@wmotamedi Art: The expression or application of human creative skill and imagination. Stop being an elitist. I saw the piece you "composed". How much creativity or imagination did that overly emotional, derivative "song" of yours take? Let's see...common time. A minor (did you ever modulate)? Triads throughout in the left hand. Simplistic, repetitive harmonic progression. Did you even bother to notate it? By the way, the Mars Volta is a huge fan of John Zorn. You will crap bricks to his music.
@ColtonBrook "It's art, first and foremost". How could you be so wrong. It hardly passes as music. It is NOISE. "Art" has become so loosely thrown around these days that people have forgotten that it is a term which should only be used to designate the finest works of music and movies. It is a trophy category that this garbage is not worthy of being in. Just because a piece of music exists does not make it art. EVERY PIECE OF MUSIC WOULD BE ART, AND THAT WOULD DEFEAT THE WHOLE PURPOSE.
Beautiful! Thanks for sharing.
