  • Those of us who are fans of this music (Orthrelm, Hella, Behold The Arctopus, etc.) are quite accustomed to the kind of abuse that is so amply displayed here. What makes this particular instance so hurtful is that we are being bashed by such intelligent people! "Sucks horrible donkey dick"? I truly hope this comment came from someone who is either sterile or too young to contribute to the gene pool.

  • that guy can play the f*&^ing drums!!!

  • @michealdark/perfectoblong: I hear you. It's taken time for me to understand that people who don't "get" complex music aren't necessarily ignorant or lazy. I love abstract philosophy, but can't "get" Derrida to save my life. So by some standards, I'm the one who is shallow. I was just calling out the haters, whose criticism is largely simple-minded and pedantic. But I should just shut up and let them get back to their Six Feet Under albums.

  • @deluge71 Some people just don't intellectually get it. They hear a string of notes played as fast as humanly possible, all treble/no bass, and can't think of it as music. It either sounds like dicking around or people just putting together exercises into songs. What they don't realize is what sounds random is actually fully composed, if statements from these bands are to be believed. Which, think of what a massive undertaking that must be. These bands can do over 100,000 notes per album easy

  • Geeeezzz I can write something about as complex (structurally) that I'm able to play with my current guitar abilities (which are way lower than Mick's!) but after the piece gets to be around 15 seconds long I can't remember what I'm playing. It's so impressive how he writes stuff that's MUCH more difficult to play, and much longer, and he can remember it all. I wish I could play at his level, but I guess my first aspiration should be to get better at memorizing : )

  • and they r playin together and never lost in structure. awesomm.

  • @gredesandman yea, thats what im saying. i think i could noodle like this, itd just be really counter intuitive.

  • Incredibly complex, but that doesn't make it sound good.

  • @deluge71 its taken me more than a few listens haha. I would absolutely love to see it live though because i think it would be a thousand times better

  • @perfectoblong Exactly. Listening to this stuff for a few seconds then writing it off is like speed-reading Kierkegaard and deciding that it sucks.
