@SparktehFox The girl actually did die. Her spirit somehow contacted him and told him that her death was not his fault, nor could it be helped. That's when Baldhead regained his sanity.

Faust was an excellent surgeon prior to the events of GGX and was actually named Dr. Baldhead. After a failed surgery he believed he was responsible for the apparent death of his patient and went on a murderous killing spree. Little did he know the girl awoke and was cured thanks to Faust. He was chased for a while by his Nurse, Fanny, who was never actually able to find him. After Faust came to his senses he decided to atone for his sins by curing the world and now refers to himself as Faust.
