@216trixie O.K., cool. I just thought I might be missing some "secret" banjo technique. Good video.

Good question ! No reason in particular. It is just to give you plenty of time between finger and thumb strokes.

each roll must contain 8 notes???

@bazthehandyman No not really. The rolls go like this 1,2,3 t,i, m and 1,2,3 m.i.t I counted to 5 in between to give you enough time to det up for the next note. why 5 ,,,no real reason. these rolls are pretty emportand and they work wel on a guitar or ukulele too! Go really slow at first and get them even. If you use finger picks you should be able to do them with out too.... 123123123123123123123 (again I just counted to 5 in between to give you time.

I have been playing electric guitar for about 5 years now. I would say I'm better than the average player. It's gotten me through some long deployments overseas. However, I've had an urge to learn how to play the banjo. I just ordered a 5 string "Goodtime" which my family is going to ship to me for Christmas. My question is, do I have to reinvent the wheel when learning how to play? or is going from guitar to banjo a little easier than having no experience with string instruments at all?

SemperBadBear Your guitar experience will definately give you an advantatage ! Actually banjo and guitar are very similar and banjo chords are easier to make. Guitar stays in tune much better than a banjo ! I think you are going to love playing banjo. Make sure to get a hard case so you dont destroy the thing. The deering gig bag is not enough !

Counting to 4 is a good idea. Any number will work as long as you can get each finger ti the right string on time......
