Arena (and Daggerfall for that matter) have a very immersive atmosphere, they don't just rely on graphics, the pop-up captions as you enter each building adds a lot to the game. Even though most quests require you to head into a cave or dungeon, the stories are varied and the written dialogue is great. Street and inn quests (Such as this one) are selected at random, based on where you are.
Even after all the years of playing this game, I'm still finding new quests.

Notice, when I'm fighting the Fire Daemon, my weapons cannot harm it, so I used a potion of purification on it to freeze it in place, then I activated my Spell Breaker Shield that I found in my last video series to block it's magic attacks. I then used bracer of Wizards fury to kill it with magic.

  • This is proof that graphics dont make the game

  • @leatherdust This is true, but would you pay 60$ for a game that looks like Arena in 2011?

  • kinda reminds me of minecraft

  • songs of runescape

  • minecraft but more manly!!!

  • This is the worst TES of all lack of creativity in the main quest secondary quest and dungeons and lack of variety of weapons and armors. And the main story is the same mission eight times i stop playin for that but anyway long live to TES

  • @esh325 Minecraft

  • @bartas2075 Actually Arena came out in 1994, which was 18 years ago, so I guess you are close.

  • @Ninja1Ninja2 yeah but they lack the atmospheric music of the early TES games. MW, OBL and Skyrim have good music, but it's more like something you'd hear in a movie, whereas these games had music to scare you and change your mood more - but they wouldn't fit in a movie either

Oh and here's a fun fact, did you know OBL's world WAS mostly procedurally generated

  • @leatherdust This was mind blowing graphics back in the day, the same would be said for skyrim in 30 years time.

  • As good as the procedural system of Arena and Daggerfall is, it could never be remade with presentable graphics (by modern standards) without it being a buggy nightmare.

Not to mention, the immersive atmosphere still remains in games past Daggerfall and Arena, it's just that the NPC's are no longer cardboard cutouts, but bland-skinned manequins.

  • @leatherdust Weren't these considered good graphics in its time?
