One day we accidentally walked into some madrasa type medieval building & some random guy there asked us if we want to see the view from the minaret...He also insisted that we pay him before we to climb up the minaret...which is the usual drama in Cairo...Despite the fact that we knew we were being ripped off, we paid and we didn't regret it because this is what we saw.

Cairo is the city of 1000 minarets. Mosques seen in this video post: Sultan Hassan Mosque 1350s, Mohammed Ali Mosque 1830s (which is in the citadel of Salah ah Din built in the 1170s, and finally Ibn Tulun Mosque 868 built by a run away governor. Each monument had a "great-man" history behind it.
