  • Is this a new pup?? He is offly cute!! Is it you wife, Katrina? That has Baby and Ice?? Is this one a lock eye as well?? I love the 2x2 weaves! Definitely my dav way of training weaves =D

  • ;) He's pretty new - I got him when he was 9 months old last year, and he's almost 17 months now. I think he's pretty cute too :)

Katrina is my wife - she's got Baby and soon you'll be seeing her new guy "Ice" out there. Ice and Rip are both Lockeye boys.

And i am really liking the 2x2's for the accuracy and Rip's understanding. I'm looking for really solid weave performance, something I didnt always have with my Skye when he was starting out.

  • I see, that's cool that you get to run another dog =) I'm going on three and love it already!

Katrina runs Baby really nicely, I can't want to see Ice out there. How old is he now?

  • Ice-man just turned 2 this week. He's entered in the MHGRC trial in April, so it won't be long now!

I think I saw you running your dog Indie at the last trial - such a neat looking border collie - very flashy!

  • I've always heard the goal when training channel weaves was to never close them until they are running through at the current spacing nearly as fast as they can run in the flat.

Is there anything like this for the 2x2's? As in, waiting for speed before proceeding?

Rip is very speedy on the flat chasing the ball but seems to be very careful when in the poles.

I plan to try 2x2's but currnelty know next to nothing. Excuse my ignorance in this area :)

  • Rip boy is quite careful currently in the poles. What Susan G suggests is they get proficient at entries and the whole understanding first, and when you have made it to 6 poles, you can open them up slightly to let the dog blast through them, but only for a few reps. I havent done that yet though.

But its not until your dog is completely confident in 12 poles that you look to build drive, and then she has a technique to help get the dog single stepping the poles by using 6 sets of 2x2's.
