Learn what you need to hook up a car amplifier to a basic car stereo in this car audio video.

Video transcript:

Hi, I've been working in the field of car audio and mobile electronics for 8 over years. I've installed everything from navigation systems to full car stereo systems, remote starters, alarms, and beyond. To learn more, visit our web site at www.movinon.com.

When installing a subwoofer, one of the most important things you need is an enclosure. A subwoofer by itself is not very useful. It needs a box to sit in. The box needs to be the proper air volume and needs to be the proper size for the particular installation you are doing. Boxes come in wood, they come in fiberglass, and sometimes they can be customized into your car to match the interior. In order to make a subwoofer play, you're going to need an amplifier, and in order to power up an amplifier, you're going to need an amp kit. An amp kit is gonna come with a heavy gauge power wire that connects directly to your vehicles battery, a high amp ridge fuse, a ground wire, and a signal cables that's gonna go from the back of your car stereo to the amplifier. If you have a factory car stereo, you're gonna need what's called a line output converter. A line output convertor is going to convert the sound from one of your car stereos speakers to a signal that an amplifier can understand. Often times, amplifiers come with this part built in, but usually it's not as high quality as the separate line output convertors that you can buy. Without a line output converter, often times, you're not going to be able to connect an amplifier to a subwoofer.
