Rear end is a 6.75" C2-WGF-AJ, with 2.73:1 gear ratio. I noticed the thunking sound awhile ago and finally got around to investigating. It appears to be the spider gears are worn, but not sure.

  • I swapped the axle out for a 28k mile 6.75" axle with 3.41 gears in it, last year. This year I swapped that one out for an 8" with 3.00 gears from a Mustang II, direct bolt in swap, length is identical.

Some day I plan to rebuild the original one shown in the video, as it is a 2.73 gear unit and offers better gas mileage and higher cruising speed on the freeway.

  • Anyone know where I can get a diff cover for one of these? I can't find one ANYWHERE!

  • i serviced mine a while ago and it's similar for slack. they get worn and sloppy and make funny noises. mine was a little worse because i don't think it had been changed in 80000 miles and there was milkshake in it. i think from condensation maybe. mine were 3.55:1 though. i want to find a locker 8 so i wasn't to concerned

  • as long as the ring and pinion gears are ok you can weld the spiders together and have a fully locked rear, If spiders fail they could destroy the whole diif.
