  • If you bought a car from someone who claimed that he was all-knowing and all-powerful, what would you expect if this claim was true?

You would expect a car that worked perfectly, that didn't degrade, etc. If that was the case, you would think there was something to the claim.

But if it didn't work perfectly, if, in fact, it worked poorly and made no sense, you would doubt the claim.

Why doesn't this work for religion?

    God works in mysterious ways?

  • Turek really likes burning straw men doesn't he

  • All Turek has accomplished is to show that one has to strip-down and utterly reduce the theist argument to simple deism in order to make it even have a hope of standing up to rational analysis and criticism.

  • @jessc1979 this is a solid argument against the intelligent design of our own bodies. intro evolution.

  • Only I who thought of Hitler as Turek ended his speech as he went from relatively calm to screaming in desperation because of the wicked pain from the big fat hitchslap he had just received?

  • @AtomSmashr I agree.. he seems to be doing little more than entertaining fans of oratory.

  • This is, in my opinion, not Hitchens best work. I won't say that he prevaricated but he did meander and often his answers were so roundabout as to seem obscure or no answer at all. Turek's questions were always strawmen so perhaps it was best not to address them directly however I've seen Hitchens do an excellent job of clarifying a question, parsing it down to the core issue and answering with clarity and profundity. In this debate he seamed almost apathetic. He has done better, IMO.

  • @MoonwalkerWorshiper a kook is a person who unshakably holds a belief that most of his or her contemporaries consider to be false. This comment is not meant as a insult I only mean to answer your question :)

  • It's funny how religious assholes manage to be condescending towards people who know far more than them and who present it better. He should thank him for being allowed to listen to him and bath in his wit.

  • @AylaPersephone What IS a "kook"?
