The launch of Atlantis, STS-135, on July 8, 2011, the final scheduled launch in the Space Shuttle program. Video taken from Banana Creek VIP viewing site at Kennedy Space Center.
View was obscured by clouds and the shuttle was only seen for about 43 seconds, but it was still a magnificent last launch, with only a 20% chance of a "GO" at the start of the morning.
Kennedy Space Center grounds were full to capacity (seemed beyond!) at 45,000 visitors while over one million people were estimated to have traveled to the surrounding area to watch the launch.
Thanks for posting this. I was there, but decided not to film or photo the launch so I could watch and enjoy it with 5 year old son and family. Bittersweet emotional day for me. I hope my son remembers this for the rest of his life.
