I've decided to upload some videos of Natalie's performances, even though they already are on YouTube, but with english subtitles, because when I'm watching an opera, I'd rather like to know what's going on. So there it is. If you want me to add different subtitles, just tell me, I'll see what I can do

Natalie Dessay as Lucia performing the aria "Ardon gli incensi" then "S'avanza Enrico". Metropolitan Opera, NY, 2007. One of the best Lucia around, if you ask me (even if you don't ^^). Hope she'll sing the role again, and this time, please, a DVD !

  • I can't believe I had not looked at this! Thank you thank you! I love the laugh and the scream LOL^^

  • Wait. You're not telling me you never saw Dessay as Lucia, are you ? O_o Leoooooooo ! XD

  • I never saw the Ardon gl'incensi (only listened to it) the last part of the mad Scene, of course! It was great to look at this for the first time and in HQ ;-) XDDDD

  • She's so great here. This laugh scare the wits out of me, because it's so freaking insane ! And the shriek at the very end... no comment. Just WOW.

  • I wish I could sing Lucia, but I'm a bass. :( BUT for audition for our fine arts academy I sung it 2 octaves down. :) It was cheating but I'm obssesed with the aria. The judges were impressed though.

  • Great scream, Shes a very good actor or actess if you will, She has a great voice well trained.

  • 4:52 :(

  • Squallidissima la risata all'inizio...ancora peggio l'urlo alla fine!

  • Sublime!

  • omg her boob was about to fall out. That being said, I really don't know much about opera ( except Arrigo Boito's Mefistofeles) ,but I have grown to really like Dessay. I keep hearing about Sutherland but she sounds too matronly and schoolmarmish for my tastes.

  • @violinistx100 indeed! I am a bass-baritone and i can understand you! It seems so unfair that all those spectacular, acrobatic, sweet and ethereal arias were only written for soprano :( I also try to sing in my range many famous coloratura soprano arias xD But dont tell anyone!!

  • I'm confused. Why is there no flute to duet with her around the 4 min mark? :(

  • @rossyxan yes, donizetti wrote this aria for glass harmonica firstable but he get angry with the "glass harmonicist" so he dicided to transcribe it for flute.

  • How did she manage that scream and keep on singing? Awesome.

  • Is that a glass harmonica I hear (like Donizetti intended) ? :D
