The date was November 10, 1984 at the Satellite Bowl in Dearborn Heights, Michigan (Aleta Sill's home bowling lanes). The final championship match featured #3 seed Mark Roth vs. #1 seed Pete Weber. Each bowler had each won two titles in 1984. This match became a playoff for player of the year honors, as there were three more events after this. The winner of the match would receive $18,000, with the runner up earning $9,500. This event was shown on NBC as part of their fall tour coverage. Jay Randolph and Earl Anthony were the announcers.

On a side note, Satellite Lanes was a 84 lane establishment. I used to work there in the snack shop for about 2 months. It has since closed down, and the site is now home to a Home Depot.

I hope you enjoy the match.

  • where is satellite bowl located

  • @sjfinchum1 Satellite Bowl closed in the early 90s. It was located in Dearborn Heights, Michigan. It is now a Home Depot.

  • @sjfinchum1 The Satellite Lanes WAS on Michigan Ave. near South Gulley Rd. at the Dearborn/Dearborn Heights/Inkster border. The Bowling Alley had over 128 lanes 64 in the east end and 64 in the west end. It had bars, restaurants, mini malls, arcades and a rental banquet halls. It used to be the BIGGEST bowling lanes in the Tri-County area.

  • @xunclexx it actually had 42 on each side for a total of 84 lanes. The largest was and still is Thunderbowl Lanes in Allen Park with 94 lanes...which was the site of last years world series of bowling.

  • I had never been to Satellite bowl, was it a split house with 42 lanes on each side? Seems more and more that the larger bowling centers real estate is worth more than the bowling center, I was even recently made an offer for one of my centers to tear it down to build condomiums, I however turned it down as that center is one of my stronger money earners in the fleet....

  • Yes, Satellite was a split house.

  • Sad to hear that such a large bowling center went down, not that long after it hosted professional events like this. In Topeka, we lost another center just a few months ago. The city now has two; twenty years ago, it had six. Ran around in a bowling center as a child back in the 70's while my parents bowled in league. Good times . . .

  • bo burton, marshall holman, and earl anthony should be the commentators. earl anthony was great in this video

  • @mrbowling300 I did not really count them (back in 1989), only went by what the attendant said but it was HUGE.

  • I was there on the Friday night and then watched the finals at home-- Roth was cranking that entire tournament-- Reminded me of his glory days [Well not quite but closel]
