  • It was real, a swimmer was injured.

  • I think its the frame rate that makes it look slow, not the pixels

  • It's not fake. the camera just makes the blades look like they're spinning slower than they actually are. It's called strobe effect.

  • i can say that that is one hell of a beast

i've been lucky enough to fly in one just like it from 22 sqd with out being injurde there was nothink like it .. nice vid

  • @socc3rplay3r1 absolutely right

  • @Moodsaver And the RPM's are going the same speed

  • Look carefully at the blades. They are slowed down due to strobing caused by the frame rate, as mentioned. They cone as the pilot pulls power just prior to lift off. Also notice that the strobing effect actually makes them appear as though they are turning in the wrong direction.

Finally if I remember correctly the main rotor rpm is somewhere in the region of 240 or maybe 270 rpm, long time since I worked on them.

  • In response to some of the comments on here...

I worked on these aircraft for 4 years ('86 to '90) when I was in the RAF. To those who say the pilot should not have landed on the soft sand, that's rubbish. These crews are well trained, very professional and extremely dedicated. However, they always carefully analyse and risk assess any landing they carry out away from prepared helo landing sites. There was no risk involved.

  • its called fps... frame per seconds....

  • magic helicopter hardly needs to spin to fly.
