I just watched this in 1080p and didn't realise until now that Peter Overton's voiceover of the opening headlines is pre-recorded!

The other thing I never knew was that the whole thing was on 20-second delay. That must be a fairly recent innovation. I doubt most other newsrooms do this?

@whophd the news is not on a 20 sec delay, it is absolutely LIVE.  The news actually starts 20 seconds before 6.00pm.

@bumboozer It's a manual control for doing a fade/dissolve/mix (whatever the TV people call it in your part of the world) between shots. There'll be a button to do it also but some people like to do it manually to control the speed.

In scotland, our Local station STV, their master control room is about the size of that control room...

I have done prompter work and such, but the split focus required to make sense of this must truly be a learned art. Youtube taught me something today!

Any chance we could get more of these. But maybe with the camera held by someone while they are on the floor watching the camera men. And is there a way for someone to come into the studio to see how things are done? Someone who is studying to become a cameraman?
