tiny hole that is used in place of a conventional
lens. Long exposures, a compact tonal range
and a softer image are its biggest drawbacks.
These are also its greatest assets.

Hi Paul, I love your work you are very talented.

I have just purchased a camera like yours and want to know how you tell how long to expose the shot for? Do you use a light meter? Also what time of the day do you do most of your outdoor shots? Early morning or evening?

Hi Michelle,

Thank you for your kind words. I use an incident light meter to determine exposures, though I've been doing it long enough now to be able to estimate most light conditions. You are correct, I like either early morning or evening, when the light is gentler. I also prefer cloudy or overcast days for shooting.

I like very much your photos and your camera. I am using a matchbox as pinhole and now i am going to build one from wood.

One thing to keep in mind when making a pinhole conversion or camera, the closer the pinhole is to the film the wider the angle it will be. Example, if the pinhole is 25mm from the film you have, in effect a 25mm lens and so on. Let me know how you make out.

Hi metheya,

Thank you. My exposures vary from 1sec, in bright sun, to over an hour, indoors in at night. It all depends on what camera I'm using and the lighting conditions. I generally shoot with a film I rate at EI 64.
