Pinholes & Pixels exhibit at Pequot Library, Southport, CT, August, 2008. Pinhole cameras record an image through a
tiny hole that is used in place of a conventional
lens. Long exposures, a compact tonal range
and a softer image are its biggest drawbacks.
These are also its greatest assets.

  • This is some beautiful shoots.

  • @bkspicture Thanks very much bks.

  • Hi Paul, I love your work you are very talented.

I have just purchased a camera like yours and want to know how you tell how long to expose the shot for? Do you use a light meter? Also what time of the day do you do most of your outdoor shots? Early morning or evening?

    Thanks Michelle.

  • Hi Michelle,

Thank you for your kind words. I use an incident light meter to determine exposures, though I've been doing it long enough now to be able to estimate most light conditions. You are correct, I like either early morning or evening, when the light is gentler. I also prefer cloudy or overcast days for shooting.

Regards, good shooting and have fun,

    Paul

  • Very good work Paul! Good to see you are staying out of trouble and doing some very interesting work.

Can't wait for the movie. Steef

  • Hey Steef, I'm too old to get into trouble, intentionally anyway. How's 'bout you? The movie is in the script stage. Casting for the roll of the protagonist will be a bit more problematic.

    Many thanks

  • Paul, congratulations on both the video and your wonderful pinhole work.

Although I love them all, my favourite is the 10x8 of the flags on the pier. Just magnificent.

  • Nice camera. Does your Zero Image have a frame counter? Thanks.

  • hi paul!

your photography is beautiful! I definitely want to try pinhole photography now!

  • Superb

  • I like very much your photos and your camera. I am using a matchbox as pinhole and now i am going to build one from wood.

  • Metheya,

One thing to keep in mind when making a pinhole conversion or camera, the closer the pinhole is to the film the wider the angle it will be. Example, if the pinhole is 25mm from the film you have, in effect a 25mm lens and so on. Let me know how you make out.

    Regards, Paul

  • Hi rheyzer, Sorry this took so long. You might try looking into the Holga Pinhole Camera. You may find them for less than $50. US. mail order.

    Regards, Paul

  • Thank you Paul, i'm new to this , i'll try with 35 mm. film , 200 asa. I made a hole on the body cap... so we'll se :)

  • Hi metheya,

Thank you. My exposures vary from 1sec, in bright sun, to over an hour, indoors in at night. It all depends on what camera I'm using and the lighting conditions. I generally shoot with a film I rate at EI 64.

    Regards, Paul

  • Very nice photos , i loved the one with the american flags ! :)

Do you always expose for 5 minutes and with what film speed ?

    Regards

  • Thank you very much Paul, very much appreciate demonstrating how this Zero Image Camera works. I'm thinking of purchasing one, I do love Landscape Photography and a newbie in the field.

Do you have nay suggestion of a cheaper alternative? Thanks

  • Thanks Mike, glad you like it.

  • Nice work Paul
