I got to borrow a Hennessy for a couple of weeks and try it out.

  • Let me know how you like the skeeter beeter. I have the Pro version and put in a set of whoopie slings to replace the bulky factory suspension. Great hammock, and can't beat the price.

  • @rennybarr I'll let everyone know. Thanks for the idea about the suspension.

  • I second the whoopie sling idea and suggest hanging a seperate ridge line suspension for the tarp. Tarp sag is a common problem in the Hennessy Hammocks. Their Hex tarp is a much better option as well and a free upgrade with the deluxe.

If you do get hold of a Blackbird, I'd say you'll be in for a nice night's sleep.

  • (Pt. 2) I have a Clark NX200 with Opie's modified suspension system, separating the tarp from the hammock. I wanted to be able to hang it first, then the hammock in bad weather. What I have learned is if you get the suspension system right, then you will not have to worry about finding the "ideal" trees in the field. If your going to stay on the ground i would check out the Traptent Moment.

  • I appreciate your philosophy towards the hammock/tent debate. I like to sleep with my head really high because of some sinus issues, so the hammock concept makes sense. But to get it right, you have to play with the different hammocks and make modifications, which you could do at home and around the station. I could never get comfortable in the Eno with using their slap straps, the tension was never right. On you recommendation I did use the 9x9 Noah's Tarp and it work well.

  • They claim that the Expedition is good up to 6' but I don't buy that either. I'm 5' 8" 180llbs. and it's just the rite size for me. I I was any taller I would have sent it back :o) IMHO I would go with the side zip. The bottom entry is a big pain with a sleeping bag. Even a left side zip. A top quilt wouldn't be such an issue.

  • I'm 6' 190# and the Hennessy Expedition Deluxe and it works well for me. Had the 2Q/ZQ zipper mod done as didn't ever really like the bottom entrance. Also have a Warbonnet Blackbird double layer that I just like a whole lot more. Hopefully someone near you will give you one to try.

  • I have a Hennessy and an Eno double nest and like both equally well. I am comfortable in both (but I am shorter than you). I run a separate line for the tarp. And I use a huge 8x10 Equinox UL tarp. I don’t see how anyone can be happy using the small tarp that comes with the Hennessy. I also do not use the snakeskins. For me, it’s just easier stuffing the hammock back into the bag.
