Jake Ludington talks to Josh from the WebOS team about why you should develop applications for WebOS and the HP TouchPad. TouchPad applications are built in HTML and JavaScript, making it easy for many developers to get started creating TouchPad apps from existing web applications. WebOS supports PhoneGap development, making it simple to write an applications for iOS, Android, and WebOS if you start out creating your app with a common framework.

  • @InvisiMan2006 definitely not, they fully support the homebrew community!

  • Wow, HP actually wants us to hack our devices? Does it still void the warranty that all other manufacturers do?

  • Why should you develop? It's Awesome! It's Super! We Love it! It's gonna revolutionize the whole tablet industr.... Oh wait, it's dead.

  • @lockergnome WebOS is dead. HP has just killed off -- i.e, will no longer produce -- WebOS phones and touchpad.

It's the first casualty of the smartphone/touchpad war.

Next to die: Windows Phone OS.

Prediction: In the end, only iPhone/iPad and Google Android will remain. Everything else will be competed out of the market.

  • The HP guy looks kind of like Gordon Freeman. Doesn't sound like I'd imagine him to though

  • @mikethedj4 developer.palm.com download the SDK. It comes with the emulator

  • THAT GUY SOUNDS SO UNBELIEVABLY GAY

  • I love companies that have a lot of opensource support.

  • @TheTrueTechCentury Where can I get the emulator? I wanna see if my apps will work on the TouchPad

  • the one good thing is that hp inclined for you to be able to apply ur ideas and hacks easily without restraint because they feel that the device is yours. And a hp tablet with a linux kernel? the only thing that couldve made this better is hp making the ram 4 gb or more 1 gb isnt enough 2 gets the job done 3 works fine but 4 6 8 and 12 make the computers and tablets godlike. we need more ram in these devices thats always been the reason why devices dont work so well. that and hard drive space
