As mp3s, CDs and other formats gain ground in the music marketplace, vinyl records continue to attract and maintain a core customer base. Young people love them because their cool and different, audiophiles love them because of the perceived quality over digital music. Either way, vinyl records are still here and still going strong.

  • Six billion vinyl records were made so they will be around for just about ever .There is no way probably to figure out the rate of attrition though.

eBay has countless records for sale. But you roll the dice on the condition. Even if it is accurately described (visually), it can still sound awful.

If you don't mind paying more, and taking the guess work out of it, wwwdot better-records dotcom listens / grades each side of every album, including the level of surface noise, clicks, etc.

If you are playing on cheap gear, then buy the low priced albums. Higher-end gear is needed to reap the benefits of quality pressings.

  • 32 years old and 3 months ago I discovered records....

One of the happiest moments of my life. I love the sound of vinyl, the artwork and sheer size of it. I also really love trying to track down a nice record and then buy it. For me it really adds to the enjoyment waiting to find a nice copy and then buying it. I really feel digital sounds inferior and in a bizarre way...too convenient.

  • vinyl=obsolete just like the dinosaurs in this video!

  • dat Sonic Youth

  • vinyl sounds better but digital literally does not die. it doesn't degrade. just remember to back up ;)

  • @KiranaForever there has to be a marriage of the two technologys one complements the other. but for true home sound reproducion of music, its vinyl or nothin.

  • that guy is so right. digital audio sounds nice and clean, but your always left with a feeling of..."theres somthing missing". thats why vinyl will never really go out of style.

  • i love it , yes the clicks and pops can be a pain if its a bad press .. but a good press of a Drum n Bass track is awesome and well worth the extra price . Ive tried mp3 and whatever , but its vinyl i like best . I dig that sound maaaaan
