The stock rear end in the similar is also stronger. But once you make lowering mods your right they are the same truck

16's arent bad for a stock 4.3, were u doing around 85 mph? i took my stock 90 extended cab S10 and ran 16.50's at 86 mph. thats a TBI 4.3 too.
