1970 NBA Finals Game 5

Classic NBA Game between the New York Knicks and the Los Angeles Lakers

In Game 5 at the Garden, the Knicks' worst fear came true: eight minutes into the game, Willis Reed fell down hard while trying to make a shot. Reed eventually got up on his own, but a leg injury forced him to leave the game. Late in the game, the Lakers led by as many as 16 points, but a scrambling defense and sheer determination to "win one for the captain" helped New York stage a remarkable comeback. Bill Bradley's clutch shot tied the game at 87 with 7:40 left to play, then 19 Laker turnovers in the second half aided the Knicks for the rest of the game en route to a 107-100 victory.

  • @thenintendogamer Marv began doing Knicks on radio in 67-68 season.

  • @thenintndogamer Marv HAS been around that long. A little dye job, he's always been rumored to have a toupe or a hair weave, too. But he was my introduction to the Knicks and Rangers on radio in the mid-1960s. He was even an assistant to Marty Glickman, a legendary NY area broadcaster of the 1940 and 50s (before my time), and learned the trade from him. You also hear Jim Gordon's call on this video. A former NY Giant defensive back who did broadcasts of Knicks, Giants and Rangers games.

  • Holy shit, I didn't know Marv Albert broadcasted for that long. Also why is it in black and white?

  • another amazing fact about this game is that LA had 30 turnovers in the game. 19 in the second half. yes, the great knick d had a lot to do with that, but THIRTY turnovers!?!

  • and to watch frazier stick a dagger in LA's heart with the final shot at the buzzer! drove the crowd into delirium.

  • yes, dave the rave. returned to the knicks after a heart attack. a valuable piece that no one expected to appear on the 69-70 team. all of a sudden they had a premier bench player. a starter on many other teams.

  • DAVE the RAVE

  • Probably the smartest team ever. Also phenomenal outside shooters from top to bottom, including Stallworth and Russell coming off the bench. And the reverse drive Stallworth pulls on Chamberlain near the end is the stuff of New York basketball legend.

  • chamberlain is the culprit here. he is out of position on offense, standing to the opposite side of the ball flow; not underneath for rebounds, sluggish on defense. Perhaps he had too many babes the night before ;-)

  • Still orgasmic after all these years. . .

Still haven't seen a team play defense and offense like these Knicks. Unbelievably smart team.

    Awesome.
