The DMZone: A Conversation with master artist Sheila Cottrell

DM Collins conducts an interview with master artist Sheila Cottrell for The DMZone.

Held for the first time in Corsicana, TX, the Western Artists of America Annual Show and Sale attracted thousands of art enthusiasts and collectors. The Pearce Museum also added four new pieces of WAA artists' work to their permanent collection: Windmill Serenade by Roger Archibald; Evening on the Plains by Jay Hester; Learning the Ropes by Karen Cooper; and Brush Creek Ranch by Don Dernovich.

"Western Artists of America have found a home here at the Pearce Museum. Next year the show and sale will be even better," says Holly Beasley Wait, Executive Director of the Pearce Museum on Navarro College campus, Corsicana, TX. "Our expansion will be completed, and there will more room for the entertainment part of the event. There will be new space for the artist workshops and an additional exhibition space for visitors to explore while visiting the WAA display. The dates for the next WAA show are March 23/24, 2012."

Members of the WAA include forty of the world's best artists and sculptors. Their works feature our Western heroes with the integrity, strength of spirit, and moral character that is an integral part of our Western heritage. Art lovers and art collectors will view the American West, in all its splendor: cowboys and cowgirls, Native American children, elders and warriors, rodeo, western landscapes, mountain men, buffalo, stagecoaches and more.

Western Artists of America is an organization formed in 2000 for the purpose of promoting the talents of professional fine artists specializing in the genre of cowboy, Native American, pioneer, cattle and horse subjects with backgrounds appropriate to the subject matter. Formed to showcase the talents of the many qualified fine western artists of today irrespective of gender, the more seasoned members seek out up and coming talent who exhibit a high interest in the western genre for mentoring.
