When and where ever there is persecution, people turn to the Church for protection. Christians in Southern Sudan and Juba in particular faced persecution throughout the liberation struggle. In 1955 there was the Torit Mutiny which was spearheaded by the Eastern Equatorians. From1983 - 2005, the Southern Sudanese fought another civil war as part of the SPLA/M against Northern Sudan. A peace deal was reached in 2005 . People living in Kator were victims when the SPLA attempt to capture the town from the Arabs failed.
