In the 1990's, Colleges and Universties of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America made a dramatic impact in the country of Namibia. Prior to 1990, Namibia was a country wracked with civil war. Like neighboring South Africa, Namibia was under the rule of apartheid. Black students were not permitted to attend college there. At the ELCA's first churchwide assembly in 1988, a parade of Namibian students sang and danced their way into the hearts of voting members. These young people were the first wave of a program that brought 100 Namibian students to the U.S. to a ttend ELCA colleges and universities. Now these students have returned to Namibia with degrees in fields including engineering, political science and communication, and Mosaic invites you to meet a number of them and see what they are doing.
