John Winthrop explains the Puritan "errand in the wilderness." Well, actually this just helps you remember that some of the Puritans left England to make a New England in the colonies. Most Puritans stayed behind in England and did not move to "Funkytown." (Instead, they played a key role in the English Civil War trying to remake English society and politics.)
