Why spend another $3,000,000 to add 22 more UNELECTED, APPOINTED politicians to our government? DUMB idea of the year. Democracy is based on the will of the majority ( meaning the most people ). This thing will allow minorities to set agendas that they will foist on the majority. If these fringe parties were what we wanted, then we would vote for them in large enough numbers to elect them. VOTE NO to this boobdoggle. One vote one person one voice.

One person one vote one voice is not correct for the current system. If your vote is discarded, then your voice is lost. That's why you need two votes. I suggest you educate yourself about the problems MMP will be solving and you really understand it rather than having a knee jerk reaction just because you don't understand what's going on.

How does the concept of minority and majority fall into this picture? Your points strike me as irrelevant: this is not an issue about whether minorities are getting more power than they should (if we can even talk about such a thing). The issue is about properly reflecting diversity of political agendas.

It's interesting that you say that, "if we wanted these fringe parties, we'd vote for them in large enough numbers...", and yet fail to realize that there is a discrepancy between a party getting over 5% of the vote and yet not getting any seats and an independent getting less than 1% yet winning a seat. In a first past the post system, it would seem that "large enough numbers" don't count for much.

Representatives are already there.

If the Canadian public can vote, say twice a year(online) on the bills that they seem reasonable, then that would be a democracy.

Increasing seats (added expenses) and party's being able to hire their buddies will end up in a more corrupt system.

On the website there is no analysis of the other systems of democracy, only the company's objective of pushing MMP based on not many people knowing what the fuck it is.

I find it ironic that in one of your sentences, you remark that "representatives are already there", but then admit that direct online voting (i.e. true and direct representation with millions of participants) would enable a true democracy. At any rate, this is not so much about increasing the amount of seats as it is about making the system fairer.

The proposal from the Citizens' Assembly is what's on the table. There's nothing blank about it.
