"SCORE" (The original theme to ABC's Monday Night Football, 1970 to 1975) by Bob's Band (( STEREO ))

This is the one and only, the original version to ABC's Monday Night Football. The theme is called "Score" by Charles Fox who went under the alias, 'Bob's Band.'

The hosts of Monday Night Football at that time when this theme song was used were (in picture order starting at 0:25):

Howard Cosell - 1970 to 1983
Don Meredith - 1970 to 1973, 1977 to 1984
Keith Jackson - 1970 only
Frank Gifford - 1971 to 1997
Fred Williamson - 1974 (preseason only)
Alex Karras - 1974 (regular season) to 1976

The first tune is the long 45 version.

The second is the edited version that was used from 1973 to 1975.

What a great post! I've always wondered who did the original theme. Many people mistakenly think it's "Heavy Action" by Johnny Pearson, but that's the later version - not the original. I just figured it was a KPM production. Charles Fox makes total sense since he did so much TV themes ("Love American Style", "Happy Days', etc.). Totally cool tune...

It probably would have been one of the top instrumental hits of the early 1970's!

Of course the neon lights that was used for the first season of "A.B.C. Monday Night Football" was modeled after the one used for "The A.B.C. Sunday Night Movie" (also Monday and Wednesday) that was seen from 1967 to 1971, possibly to emphasize the show business angle.
