@Whatisright just used my intuition and trail-and-error until I got a good exposure, then just left the settings alone and kept shooting.

i tried this tonight with my D300s,sigma 50mm,sb600 and a sb800. i dont have triggers but i used commander mode. how do i set it up in commander mode? i also went and bought a black foam board from a arts and craft store. how do i get the background solid black? how far does the black board need to be from the tank? thanks for all your videos and step by step instructions, they are awesome.

@jp450r The further it is away from the tank, the better. If you wanted it 100% black without post-processing the image, you would have to do this outside at night time, or have a big black wall far away from the tank. For commander mode... check the instruction manual, do a Google search, or ask someone at a camera store.
