This video features the title track from Franz's 1991 album on the hatART label, "L'Heure Bleue".

Franz Koglmann (born 1947) is an Austrian jazz composer. He performs on both the trumpet and flugelhorn in a variety of contexts, most often within avant-garde jazz and third stream contexts. An award-winning composer, Koglmann has performed or recorded with a variety of musicians, including Lee Konitz, Paul Bley, Bill Dixon, Georg Gräwe, Andrea Centazzo, Theo Jörgensmann, Wolfgang Reisinger, Enrico Rava, Yitzhak Yedid, Ran Blake and John Lindberg, among many others.

The L'Heure Bleue set is Koglmann in miniature. Leaving the compositions for his gargantuan yet soulfully swinging and improvising machine the Pipetet behind, Koglmann functions in two much smaller settings here: as part of a quartet, and in duet with Misha Mengelberg. The quartet showcases the talents of Tony Coe on tenor and clarinet, Burkhard Stangl on guitar, and the great Klaus Koch on bass alongside Koglmann's trumpet and flügelhorn.
