they say if you are sure there`s a hurricane coming, just cut all the screening of and leave the frame

I know many homes where I live in Florida all being knocked down by hurricane Wilma, it was a harsh strom

If rust is a problem, you could probably use copper poles and brass/bronze screws and bolts. Also, my imagination of a more hurricane proof patio screen structure depicts the structure in more the shape of a pyramid with triangular walls/sides instead of a box with square walls/sides.

That pses weight and rusting problems. It seemed that teh ones that failed were not built up correctly. We were in Palm Beach and got hit the hardest and all we had was 2 beems come flying out but it still stood up. We eventually had to redrill holes and put in schews.

Not very surprising. Perhaps the next patio screen you put up should be made with steel beams that are bolted and welded together much more solidly and maybe it will even survive a Camille type hurricane still standing and in one piece.
