@trevor22a I seem to recall a scene where Clint found Niki's red wig hidden in a trunk at the foot of their bed. Am I imagining that scene? I also recall the scene when he confronted her. I remember it being advertised as a promo, as well, around Christmastime 1985. I was a freshman in college at the time.

The confrontation at the Waterside Inn was much later. Clint befriended Niki and pretended (to Tina) that he believed she was Viki. Tina faked being pregnat with Clint's baby, but Niki never believed her. Viki came out several times via the mirror while Clint and Niki got to know each other. Viki warned Niki that she was coming back and that's when Niki ran away to the Waterside Inn. Clint followed her and came up with his plan.

What really proved it was a tape recoding Tina made of her talking with Bobby Blue. He admitted that he found Viki helping Stick kidnap herself. Niki went to Santo Damingo for a quick divorce with the tape recording, but her luggage didn't make it. Clint found the tape in her suitcase (earlier he had walked in on Bobby giving it to Niki. Later, Niki was going to Paris and Clint confronted her, He convinced her to trust him by promising he'd never have her committed again.

Jessica being ,molested was a major (and awful) rewrite of history. Niki never took Jessica to bars because she wasn't out much at all during Jessica's childhood. She was when Kevin and Joey were kids, but Viki came back before Jessica was born. Niki really only came out again when Viki had her stroke and that was to save Tina by shooting Johnny. Plus, Niki always left the boys home with the nanny Kim, who later also took care of Jessica.

Niki became worse and worse with each return. 2002 was just awful and then later we found out she caused Jessica to be molested, which I don't believe Niki would have done. I really did prefer the 80s Niki, who was selfish but sometimes good at heart.

I prefer this calmer version of Niki too. Later she was less rounded as a character and just became loud and obnoxious. This Niki, incidentally, never drank liquor (except once with Tina). In the 90s and beyond Niki became a rowdy boozer.

Niki was in the Sanitarium with Tracy (as an orderly) off-screen. Tracy didn't actually appear as a character until late in 1985 when Niki was pretending to be Viki. Tracy vaguely recognized Niki from somewhere, but Niki didn't recognize her. Later, after Viki came back, Tracy killed Dr Polk and framed Clint. He went to prison and Viki was committed. Viki pretended to be Niki to try and trap Tracy into a confession that she killed Dr Polk.

This is very well put together, on all fronts. The later Niki appearances were too cartoonish. I preferred this version of Niki "I'm not a joiner!" Smith. I kind of wish she could come back and whoop Stacy and give Charlie some personality.

This was a great scene, and I agree with you that 1985-87 were some of its best years. I have some OLTL clips from 1985 posted on my page with Viki (Niki) and Tina. My mom taped OLTL all the time back around this time; fortunately two eps still exist in my collection. Both from November 1985. I do hope one day classic OLTL from the Rauch and pre-Rauch years are released on DVD.
