I am getting a net book just for web surfing and taking it places
-
well its basically a good notebook and is one of the thinest note books in pc cases but if i had to choose between a toshiba r600 then mac book air i would cause it has way more ports has a way better battery life i believe and has basically anything a normal notebook has just compacked in a small mold, overall i think its a good travelling laptop not a everyday laptop cause it isnt super powerful but still good and punch a pack

There is no way in hell i would spend $3000 for that ugly designed laptop i don't care what hardware is on the inside of that laptop.

@KingSamLopez I don't know, they've been doing better lately. Now that I think about, I'd go for that ThinkPad-Wacom-Huey-Dual-Scree
n thingy. -
@mrmikerotch yeah.. but in 3 months when it dies. you'll be running back to toshiba.

Here in Europe the top model costs circa $2000 and both models have integrated 3G modem. Mac outside US and Canada is very pricey thing (13 inch macbook pro costs in Germany about $400 more than in US) and the support really sucks (almost no Apple stores and official service points are nowhere near the real thing).
And you pay for the portability. I have its predecessor R500 and 770g is just wonderful. Macbook Air is almost two times heavier.

For the price, I'd rather get the Alienware.

Any one would be a complete idiot to pay $3000 for this laptop! Makes absolutely no sense.
would this laptop run 3d modeling software without a problem, I would connect it to an 22 inch monitor.

@eduardolz31 probably not. it's not very powerful, it's more about portability and light weight

is it good for a programmer/hacker for work?

It's not super powerful, so maybe not. It would be more than fine for light work, but it's not exactly a workhorse.

People complained on fan noise of Toshiba R600. what about the unit you reviewed?
