In 1989 you could also get it free-to-air in PAL clear stereo audio 7.02/7.20 panda1 with motorised satellite equipment on Intelsat601 at 27.5degW;the sparklies depended on your dish size, the bigger the better for reliable reception.
Yeah it transmitted from the Astra1C satellite in softcrypted FTA Videocrypt1 PAL when it started then went pay-tv Videocrypt 1 and 2 PAL when it joined Skymultichannels in the UK and Multichoice kaleidescope in Benelux countries. I didn't get those sparklies because I had an 80cm dish and 0.3dB LNB and it was extremely well aligned with the Astra satellites.
