Amor Cubano presents:

XIOMARA LAUGART
Live!

Special Guest
Pedro Martinez.

Xiomara Laugart first came to fame here in the U.S. as the lead singer of the new-wave Grammy-nominated Latin funk band Yerba Buena and her star-turn in the Broadway premiere production of Celia: The Life & Music of Celia Cruz.

Since these milestones Xiomara's solo performances are marked by her soulful singing and accomplished virtuosity. She has the skill to perform either a cappella or with a full band; nostalgia and the contemporary sounds of today mix seamlessly when it comes to Xiomara's music.

Over the years Xiomara has performed at venues all over the world and with some of the biggest talents in the music industry. at venues around the globe for years and along the biggest talents all over.

In her native Cuba she is a living-legend having recorded more than 15 albums. For many years, Xiomara Laugart La Negra as she is popularly known, was Muse to the Nueva Trova artists. Xiomara is both the essence of the old Cuba, with its rhythmic folk songs, fused with a blend of todays directness and clarity of voice, which is eventually matched with her deep laugh. It is that distinctive laugh that has captivated audiences from all walks of life with her swing style in all of her Cuban splendor.

Xiomara is gifted with an impressive vocal range with allows her a lot of freedom and an ability to straddle numerous genres simultaneously. She has recorded and/ or performed along names such as: Celia Cruz, Tito Puente, Albita, Isaac Delgado, Carlinhos Brown, MeShell Ndegeocello, Femi Kuti, DAngelo, Erykah Badu & many more.

Pedro Martinez began performing at the age of 11, where he played and sang in comparsa groups in school. Born and raised in Cuba, he had the unique opportunity to work with numerous Afro-Cuban groups, such as Yoruba Andabo, Obba Ilu, Tata Guines, Changuito, Anga and many others. He also recorded several albums, one of which was entitled "Guemilere", which was produced by Roman Diaz, as well as the group Los Nani.

Pedro also had the opportunity to travel to Costa Rica, France, Spain, and the Canary Islands, and came to the United States in July 1998 after performing with saxophonist Jane Bunnett at the Canadian Jazz Festival in Toronto.

Join us once again at Amor Cubano's Noche de Trova for an evening that truly captures the essence of real Cuban home cooking in a setting that brings together both the classic golden age of Cuba with a more young, hip and sexy atmosphere full of music, dancing, singing and performance art.
