America is "going through a period of transition," Gen. Wesley Clark told an audience at DePauw University tonight as he described the challenges the nation faces in its 'war on terror,' he said the origins of the problems we face today can be traced back to 1989, when the Berlin Wall fell. Clark says, from that point forward, America had no foreign policy strategy and was not proactive, only reacting to problems in the world's hot spots as they emerged. "President George H. Bush declared a new world order. But when we won the Cold War, we lost America's sense of direction in the world. We lost strategy, we lost our purpose for being in the world." Clark delivered the Timothy and Sharon Ubben Lecture before 2,700 people.
