This is our first Battery-Powered lawn-mower conversion. It uses an old 36V golf-cart motor, and three marine batteries with a direct contactor. The mower employs a hydro-static transmission which is critical in these conversions. The mower also includes an autograph from Ed Begley Jr. Here is a nice photo of the mower with a solar charging package: http://www.flickr.com/photos/33124341@N04/3465067265/

  • @79maliboom lol its seems like it would help but it actually wouldnt do anything you cant get soemthing from nothing

  • Brilliant!, great job. how long can u go before u notice a decrease in power? it's possible to implement some kind of stator (alternator) to the shaft of the blades to recharge itself... likely it will not be a 100% charge but it will give u a little more longevity.

  • Sounds cool, I don't know big each blade is but I think the max RPM for a 22" blade is somewhere around 1800 RPM. It's all about the feet per second that the blade tip speed is spinning. It is the reason of why the huge wind farm generators spin so slow because the tip speed is traveling very fast even with the giant blades 2-digit RPMs.

  • let'r rip! I don't know what the RPM is, and we just run it on straight contactor. As far as catastrophically destructing, I believe it would take some incredibly high RPM's to harm the blades. It does mulch sticks like a maniac, though!

  • My question is how do you control the RPM so the blade tip speed doesn't go too fast and catastrophically destruct, it almost sounds like it may be going to fast already but then again there is no engine noise to compete with.

  • I found this on his EvAlbum page, add /2587 to the end of the address and you will see more details. He has three 12 volt generic flooded deep cycles on it with 75Ah capacity that he uses solar panels for charging.

  • Most people don't realize - they send more pollution by getting their lawn mowed with those super gas-powered dirty lawn mowers than by driving their cars because they burn so inefficiently.

  • Cool. AGM batteries? What's the Ah capacity?

How big of a yard will it do before it needs a recharge?
