The play focuses on a group of actors, performing Dr Faustus, who find the play ignites passions in them that threaten destruction. Replete with local references which are sure to delight St Albans' natives, and karaoke interludes which provide an ironic commentary on the unfolding drama, Playing Faustus is guaranteed to amuse, disturb and inflame audiences.

Having grown up in England, de la Bere spent much of her adult life in New Zealand, before returning to this country and settling in St Albans in 1996. She is a three times Jonathan Cape published novelist whost first novel, The Last Deception of Palliser Wentwood, was shortlisted for the David Higham Prize.
